Mowers for the square

Wicket preparation needs a pedestrian cylinder mower that holds a low, even height of cut, and many clubs keep a second for the rest of the square. Ask when the cylinder and bottom blade were last ground or replaced, how many blades the cylinder has, and whether a grass box, transport wheels and any verticut or brush cassettes come with it.

Rollers

A roller is the most important machine on the square. On a used self-propelled roller, check that the engine starts and runs cleanly, that forward and reverse drive engage smoothly, that the drums are free of dents and the scrapers sound, and that the steering and brakes work. Ask for the weight and working width, which decide what it can be used for.

Renovation kit

Autumn renovation means scarifying hard, aerating, overseeding and dressing with loam. On a scarifier, check the blades and the depth adjustment; on an overseeder, the discs or spikes and seed metering. Clubs that share kit across a league often buy renovation machines between them.

Buying from a dealer

Every seller here is an approved UK dealer, checked against Companies House or HMRC before they can list. Dealers usually service and set up a machine before delivery, can often take a part exchange, and should tell you plainly whether the price is plus VAT. We never take payment ourselves: you deal with the dealer directly.

Questions

What machinery does a cricket club need?
For the square, a pedestrian cylinder mower, a roller, and scarifying, aerating and overseeding kit for renovation, plus a spreader. For the outfield, a triple, ride-on or gang mower. Many clubs own the mower and roller and hire or share the rest.
Can I use a golf greens mower on a cricket square?
Yes. Pedestrian greens mowers cut at the heights wickets are prepared at, and courses trade them in regularly, so they are a common used buy for clubs. Check the width, the lowest height of cut and the condition of the cylinder.
Are prices shown plus VAT?
Each listing says whether its price is plus VAT, includes VAT, or has no VAT to add. Search and price filters compare prices excluding VAT, so plus-VAT and VAT-inclusive listings sort fairly against each other.
Can I get an alert when a machine I want is listed?
Yes. Search for what you need, for example Auto Roller rollers or Dennis cylinder mowers, and save the search. We email you when a matching machine is listed.
