Mowers for a longer cut

Rugby is played on longer grass than football, so many grounds cut with a rotary, a rotary-deck ride-on or trailed gangs. On a rotary, check the deck for cracks and corrosion, the blade spindles and belts. On gangs, ask about the cylinders, bottom blades and the condition of the frame and wheels.

Deep aeration and drainage

Scrums and lineouts compact the soil well below the surface, so deep tine aerators and sand slitters earn their keep on a rugby pitch. Ask the maximum working depth, what tines are included, and how the crank and bearings have been maintained. Check the tractor horsepower, PTO and linkage category the machine needs before you buy.

Overseeding through the season

Heavy wear means many groundsmen overseed little and often rather than only at the end of the season. On a used overseeder, check the discs or spikes, the seed metering and the hopper, and whether it can be calibrated for different seed rates.

Buying from a dealer

Every seller here is an approved UK dealer, checked against Companies House or HMRC before they can list. Dealers usually service and set up a machine before delivery, can often take a part exchange, and should tell you plainly whether the price is plus VAT. We never take payment ourselves: you deal with the dealer directly.

Questions

What size tractor do I need for a deep aerator?
It depends on the machine and its working width and depth. Each manufacturer gives a minimum horsepower and linkage category, so ask the dealer for both and check them against your tractor before you buy.
Can I get machinery delivered to my club?
Most dealers deliver, either with their own transport or through a haulier, and many will set up and demonstrate the machine on arrival. Ask the dealer for a delivered price when you enquire.
Are prices shown plus VAT?
Each listing says whether its price is plus VAT, includes VAT, or has no VAT to add. Search and price filters compare prices excluding VAT, so plus-VAT and VAT-inclusive listings sort fairly against each other.
Can I get an alert when a machine I want is listed?
Yes. Search for what you need, for example Redexim or Charterhouse aerators, and save the search. We email you when a matching machine is listed.
