Buying used golf course machinery

Where used golf machinery comes from

Much of the used fleet on the market comes back off four- or five-year lease and finance agreements, so there is a steady supply of greens, tee and fairway mowers with a known history and moderate hours. Machines from a single course are often sold as a matched set, which keeps parts and cutting units common across your shed.

Hours, and what they mean on a cylinder mower

Engine hours tell you about the engine and hydraulics; they say less about the cutting units, which are the expensive part to get right. Ask when the cylinders and bottom blades were last reground or replaced, how many blades the reels have, and whether groomers, brushes or verticut units are included. A higher-hours machine that has just been through the workshop can be the better buy.

Utility vehicles and golf buggies

On electric vehicles, the battery matters more than the hours: ask for its age and type, whether lithium or lead acid, and whether a charger is included. On petrol and diesel utility vehicles, check the tipping body, brakes and hour meter, and whether it has been fitted with a sprayer or top-dresser that may come with it.

Buying from a dealer

Every seller here is an approved UK dealer, checked against Companies House or HMRC before they can list. Dealers usually service and set up a machine before delivery, can often take a part exchange, and should tell you plainly whether the price is plus VAT. We never take payment ourselves: you deal with the dealer directly.

Questions

How many hours is too many on a used greens mower?
There is no single figure. A triple greens mower is typically traded at 2,000 to 4,000 hours, and a well-maintained diesel will run far beyond that. The service history and the state of the cutting units matter more than the number on the meter.
Are prices shown plus VAT?
Each listing says whether its price is plus VAT, includes VAT, or has no VAT to add. Search and price filters compare prices excluding VAT, so plus-VAT and VAT-inclusive listings sort fairly against each other.
Can I get machinery delivered to my course?
Most dealers deliver, either with their own transport or through a haulier, and many will set up and demonstrate the machine on arrival. Ask the dealer for a delivered price when you enquire.
Can I get an alert when a machine I want is listed?
Yes. Search for what you need, for example Toro greens mowers under 3,000 hours, and save the search. We email you when a matching machine is listed.
