Buying used greens mowers
Greens mowers cut at very low heights, so the condition of the cutting units matters more than almost anything else. Check the cylinder and bedknife for wear, ask when they were last ground or backlapped, and look at the rollers and bearings. Groomers and verticut units add value if they are included.
Pedestrian greens mowers give the best finish and suit smaller courses and bowling greens. Ride-on triplex models cover ground faster. On ride-ons, check engine hours, hydraulic hoses and fittings for leaks, as a hydraulic leak on a green can damage the turf. Hybrid and electric reel drives reduce that risk; check battery health where fitted.
